Suzanne Binnie
Artist & Teacher

About the Artist
Suzanne grew up in a family of artists as her mother and two sisters are talented watercolor and pastel artists.
Suzanne was educated at Penn State University and Tyler School of Art, and has also studied with Janet Walsh,
Tom Lynch, Stephen Quiller, Margaret Huddy, and Susan Abbott.

Watercolor is Suzanne's medium of choice because she loves the effects and luminosity it can achieve.  Her
subjects are varied and range from landscapes and seascapes to florals and wildlife.

Suzanne believes that her art is a journey in self-expression.  She believes we all see things differently and she
tries to convey her perceptions through her paintings.  Although she has been painting since childhood she is still
fascinated by watercolors and every painting is a challenging experience.

Over the past ten years Suzanne has entered many juried shows and has been placed and received honorable
mention on numerous occasions.  These shows include Reston Community Center Art Shows, the League of
Reston Artists Spring & Summer Shows, the Vienna Treasury of Arts (TART) Shows, the US Geological Survey
Fine Art Show, and the Callao Art Show, all in Virginia.  At the Callao show her painting, "Roots", was judged
Best in Show.  In the E.W. Poore of Manchester, NH Juried Show her painting "Elephant Walk" was judged Best
in Show in April 2007, and again at Poore's show in April 2009, her mixed media piece "Dragonflies and
Damselflies" took Second Place.  In the Gallery One Juried Show, Nashua, NH,  "Poppy Pizzazz" was awarded
Second Place in Show in June 2007.

Culhaven Studios is the name given to the company that Suzanne & Peter Binnie run from their home in New
Hampshire. Suzanne's work may be viewed by appointment (603-465-2339) at the studio in Hollis, NH and in several
local galleries. She has paintings hanging in the NOA Gallery at 113 Main Street, Groton, MA 01054; where the
contact is Joan E. Parker-Roach, 978-448-2959, and selections may be seen at various local shows and fairs
throughout the year

For many years Suzanne has been teaching watercolor painting to beginners, intermediate and advanced
students.  Her style of teaching includes art theory and her goal, especially for beginners, is to ensure a thorough
grounding in watercolor technique using sample paintings allowing students to quickly produce finished products.
She teaches primarily in her home studio and always welcomes enquiries from new students.
